What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a system of healing, which assists the body’s natural tendency to heal itself.
The word homeopathy comes from the Greek “homios” meaning similar and “pathos” meaning disease or suffering.
Homeopathic remedies are energetic. They are made from plants, minerals, animal, disease products and other substances. These substances go through a process of serial dilution and succussion or potentisation. This releases the inherent healing potential of the substance but as they contain no bio-active ingredients homeopathic remedies are non-toxic.
Could Homeopathy help me?
The main principle of Homeopathy is the ‘Law of Similars’ - “that which makes sick, shall heal”. In other words, any substance capable of producing symptoms in a healthy person has the potential to heal similar symptoms in someone who is unwell.
What can I expect from a Homeopathy treatment?
Individualisation is a cornerstone of Homeopathy. Remedies are prescribed, based on an individual’s signs and symptoms, be they mental, physical or emotional.
It is unusual for people with the same illness label, eg asthma, to need the same homeopathic remedy. This is because homeopaths are looking for the remedy that reflects each person’s unique way of expressing and responding to the symptoms of asthma.
Working this way stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal itself and reduces susceptibility to ill health by creating greater resilience to the stresses of daily life.
With homeopathic remedies we are always looking to find the minimum dose necessary to facilitate this shift.
During a consultation your homeopathy practitioner will work to understand all the ways in which you express being ‘out of balance’ and the effect of these different symptoms. The consultation is comprehensive and includes full personal and family health history.
This process is important, as there are thousands of possible homeopathic remedies, many of which may be appropriate. Your homeopathy consultant needs to be able to differentiate between the possible remedies to find the remedy that is the most similar match to the way in which the symptoms or ‘dis-ease’ are being expressed by you.
Sometimes your homeopathic consultant will use a subtle form of muscle testing to assist in selecting the most appropriate remedy. This is done towards the end of the consultation.
Homeopathic consultations do not involve invasive examinations.
First treatment – 60–90 minutes; Subsequent treatments – usually 45-60 minutes (shorter appointment times are appropriate for children)
